I guess I should have titled this with Week Whateverthisis, but we kind of lost the streak with the net outage and my lovely hospital visit. Hoo-flippity-ray for that, by the way. Assuming anyone wants to read about that and what else is going on in life, here goes!
So anyone remember how I was having pain in my leg? Like moreso than elsewhere? Bone chips. Bone chips are so much fun. All hail the bone chips. They actually knew about a few of the tiny ones and said it wouldn't matter, they'd just melt away somehow and I wasn't using the muscle enough for them to cause pain. WELL WHAT DO YOU KNOW THAT WAS NOT ENTIRELY TRUE. I now have a new word in my ever expanding vocabulary and it is my new least favorite word ever: Abscess. Think I spelled that right. Anyway.
Apparently a couple of the stray chips they didn't find started causing problems, and between them being hard to see on X-rays and me being on painkillers and smashed up to hell anyway (I played this neat card game called Smash Up during the internet outage. Lot of fun. Really enjoyed it :D) it just wasn't gonna get found in a timely manner. So anyway, last week or so and holy balls it's been a long time but anyway last week or so, the pain just got unreal and I went in to the ER for a checkup. I've never seen that many doctors around one X-ray; they'd look at it, tap, Very Serious Hmm, then call another one in. At about five or six of them it was "alright Jeremy, you have bone chips here, here and here that are" and then the medical terminology for MAKING YOUR DAY NOT VERY GOOD AT ALL.
What followed: days and days of lying in a hospital bed listening to a game show called Family Feud, where families don't feud and don't get serious prizes. Old lady in the next bed was apparently a big fan. Either that or she was asleep and nobody bothered to turn it off. Oh boy oh boy was that ever not a great thing. Thankfully after a while it didn't matter because surgery, procedures, drugged-up sleep, repeat. The funky-shaped plate arrived and that's in now, though they had to do that last to make sure the abscesses didn't kick back into high gear.
If I've got all my facts straight here, that should be the last operation. Which comes with good and bad news. I won't walk properly again, they say. I'll walk, but there will be a limp, arthritis, scarring... at this point, honestly, it just sounds good to still have legs. Pushed my progress back a lot, but I was able to keep at the shoulder for a few days and even though it's stiff I'm pretty sure it'll bounce back.
So where does that leave the blog? Well, I have to move into a new apartment for September 1st. Roomie and the rest have been real troopers, but I'm still going to have to clean out the pizza fund to pay for some moving help. It sucks to be useless. The blog is staying up, but obviously I won't be updating as often. I had to skip a couple of pills to have enough energy up to do this post and it's not any kind of fun at all. Won't be doing that again in a big hurry. This weekend I'm going up to Cape Breton to visit my grandparents. After that, it's moving week, and then school comes. Between moving and school, I don't know what kind of rate of posts I'll be doing, but if you don't give up on me, I'm not gonna give up on all of you!
A huge thank you to everyone who shared well-wishes with Lacy. It was really great to hear from so many people. Even if this is the point where things have to slow down, it was a hell of a ride and I feel honored to have connected with so many great people. You're all awesome. :D
Signing off for now but still very much on my feet, figuratively speaking.
